Bear talks about his fears as he is taken away from his home due to abuse/neglect and learns to have courage and a brave heart. The story describes a child named "Bear". The little book is placed in the bags for the younger children. Wholesale cost of each Jansport bag is approximately $20 a piece. Everything the child has known (family, toys, books, school supplies) are gone and they face an uncertain future. The majority of time, the child enters protective care with nothing. The duffle/backpack bags are given to the children when they are removed from their home due to abuse/neglect. The rooms also need to give a warm, friendly, and happy environment for the visit. The children have supervised family visits in these rooms and they need to be refurbished with child-friendly furniture, toys, and games. Many of the Office of Community Services Family Visitation Rooms are in need of renovations. Each book cost approximately $20 to complete. Brave Heart has volunteers to assemble the books, but we need assistance in the cost of supplies for the books. A record of events, people and places in the child's life helps to provide a sense of belonging to a community. When a child has been removed from their home, the Social Workers are required by the State to assist the child in preparing and maintaining a "Life Book". Items such as brushes, shampoo, toothbrushes, school supply boxes, blanket, stuffed animal, journals, etc. Each child's Brave Heart Bag contains items for personal hygiene, personal ownership, and comfort.
